The Teacher’s Notebook sponsors Buwan ng Wika Blog Writing Contest

WE CELEBRATE August as Buwan ng Wika, where we put the spotlight on Filipino, our national language. This year, The Teacher’s Notebook takes part in this celebration by sponsoring a blog writing contest among students.

The objectives of the said contest are the following:

  • To use blogging as a tool for promoting the Filipino language
  • To encourage students to discuss issues pertaining to the national language
  • To generate online content written in Filipino
With the guidance of the SAKAFIL adviser, Aleli E. Dasmariñas, the following set of guidelines was drafted:
GUIDELINES FOR THE ‘BUWAN NG WIKA’ BLOG WRITING CONTEST
  1. Each section will choose a two (2) individuals to participate in the contest.
  2. Each participant will create a blog in their preferred platform and shall submit to the URL to the board of judges through Ariel Lalisan of The Teacher’s Notebook.
  3. Each participant is expected to come up with at least one blog post every week based on the following themes:
    • August 1-7 – Pagpapahalaga sa Pambansang Wika
    • August 8-14 – Wika sa Pagpapatupad ng Kaunlaran at Disiplina ng
      Bayan
    • August 15-21 – Wika ang Instrumento sa mga Patakarang Pangkaunlaran at Pangkatarungan
    • August 22-28 – Wikang Filipino: Tugon sa Malinaw na Programa sa Tuwid na Landas
    • August 29-31 – Wikang Filipino: Tinig ng mga Guro, Tinig ng mga Mag-aaral, Wika ng Kabayanihan
  4. An orientation and blogging Seminar will be held at the ANSHS Cafeteria on July 22, 2011, 1:30PM
  5. Entries must be ORIGINAL and written in Filipino.
  6. Each blog posed must contain at least 100 but not more than 200 words.
  7. Participants may enhance their blog posts with related photos and videos, but they shall acknowledge the owners of the materials they use.
  8. Participants must encourage their schoolmates and friends to comment on their posts. Posts with sensible discussions in Filipino will gain more points.
  9. The board of judges will select three best blogs and will receive a special prize from The Teacher’s Notebook.
  10. The blogs will be judged according to the following criteria:
    • Content 30%
    • Relevance to the Theme 20%
    • Creativity 10%
    • Diction 10%
    • Originality 10%
    • Impact to Readers 10%
    • Overall look and feel of the blog 10%

I, too, have a blog in Filipino and I hope that this activity will encourage my students to blog and to learn to use the internet for worthwhile activities.

Ariel Lalisan is a physics teacher at Alabel National Science High School. He is an advocate of constructivism approach in education. He employs active learning and independent learning in his lessons, and, of course, a lot of technology integration. His goal is to produce students who can solve problems on their own using the concepts they learn in the classroom. Ariel Lalisan is a Google Certified Innovator (Google Teachers Academy Southeast Asia 2014) and a community leader at Google Educator Group Sarangani. He is a co-founder of SoCCSKSarGen and he won the Globe Media Excellence Blogger of the Year Award in 2015.

    1. That’s the challenge. As I have told you during the seminar, online readers have short attention span. You have to keep your articles short. 😀
